ELECTROLYSIS - Chlor-Alkali Electrolysis Plant

Address: Spoljnostarcevacka 82, 26000 Pancevo, Republic of Serbia
Phone: + 381 (0)13 307 155

Based on the license of Olin Corporation, USA, the Chlor-Alkali Electrolysis Plant was designed by Crawford & Russell , USA . The production process is based on mercury technology.

Designed annual capacity (in tons):

Chlorine
88,800
NaOH (100% Caustics )
100,000
NaOCl ( Sodium Hypo-Chlorite )
8,000
Hydrogen
2,500
Total
199,300

After the bombardment in March 1999 and the reconstruction which took place later in the year, the plant is now operating with the following reduced annual capacities (in tons):

NaOH ( 100% Caustics )
4,300
NaOCl ( Sodium Hypo-Chlorite )
1,800
HCl ( Hydrochloric Acid )
11,000
Total
17,100

The products of the chlor-alkali electrolysis plant find a broad usage in the chemical industry:

  • NaOH – for production of cellulose, aluminium, detergents, organic dyes, pigments, lacquers, ceramics, in the rubber and cosmetics industries

  • NaOCl – for chlorination of water, for bleaching of textile, cellulose and paper

  • HCl – for usage in energy plants, in the chemical, textile, pharmaceutical and food industries, metallurgy etc.
