The Law on Chemicals which is in conformity with the EU regulations, has created a contemporary legal framework based on the precautionary principle. The goal of this act is to make sure that a manufacturer and importer, as well as a distributor, put on the market only chemicals which do not present unacceptable risk to people health and the environment, and to provide communication in the chain of supply in order to distribute the information about danger and risks which may be caused by some of the chemicals.
It is necessary to ensure safe management of chemicals in all phases of the chemical life cycle. Different phases of the chemical life cycle for safe management of chemicals are defined by the regulations referring to transport of hazardous chemicals, risk control, protection of personnel dealing with chemicals, regulations about environmental protection, which set procedures of safe emission of chemicals from certain facilities and permissible concentrations of chemicals in the air, waters and soil, protection against chemical accidents, disposal of chemicals and their packaging as wastes.
For the purpose of managing hazardous chemicals in a way to lower possible risks and minimize harmful impact of the chemicals to people health and the environment and to make sure that precaution measures are applied, HIP-Petrohemija a.d. appointed an expert, trained and certificated person who is responsible for proper care and management of chemicals (Consultant for chemicals).
